|Malabrigo Lace in Brillante|
I have had my one skein of Malabrigo Lace in my stash for almost a year waiting to be knit up into a Citron Shawl. I saw this sample in a visit to WEBS and without any hesitation, grabbed a skein of Brillante, and then quickly let it languish in my yarn drawer. Does that ever happen to you? You are so excited to buy the yarn and pattern for a project, get everything together, and then not cast on immediately?
I can't explain why I do that but last month when I decided to start knitting down my stash, I found this beauty again. I'll admit that I almost went in search for a different pattern to knit with it, but then remembered how much I loved the Citron sample in the store so stuck to my original plan. I'm glad I did.
The pattern is clear and simple and, when knit in a variegated yarn, produces a stunning result. I haven't knit with Malabrigo Lace before (it's lovely), but my fingers ached a bit as I'm really not used to working with such a fine weight and small needles.
This is definitely on the shawlette side, but what I love about shawl designs is that they're completely malleable. I stayed faithful to the pattern instructions and used up my one skein but I can see how, when modified, this design can be something a bit more substantial. Okay, maybe not knit in a bulky yarn but worsted? On US8? Hmmm.....
